KFMG Radio Receives Listener Recognition in More Than One Way
DES MOINES, Iowa—March 18, 2009—KFMG-LP radio,"Your Community Voice," receives runner-up honors and fund-raising dollars.
Broadcasting since March 2007 on only 100 watts of power, KFMG is rapidly becoming a powerful force in local radio. KFMG recently received runner-up honors as the 2009 Cityview "Best of Radio Station." In addition, listeners donated over $11,000.00 to the station's first ever call-in fundraiser.
KFMG, which is licensed to the not-for-profit organization, Employee & Family Resources (EFR), is primarily maintained by volunteers, with EFR providing administrative support and two part-time employees. More than 30 community members can be heard during the week in their on-air roles, playing music, conducting interviews, reading poetry, performing radio theater and the like. The station has distinguished itself by daily featuring local musicians, live in-studio performances, arts and cultural events, and human service needs and services, as well as interviews with local civic leaders and elected officials on a broad array of topics.
"The month of February was like a really great Christmas for all of us, volunteers and staff, at KFMG," said former Des Moines Mayor and long-time EFR employee, Preston Daniels. "Within days of each other, we were honored by the Cityview recognition – unheard of for a light-bulb-size station; and then having our studio phones ringing off the hook as listeners called in their financial support during our first-ever fundraiser." Daniels is the director of KFMG for EFR.
