KFMG 99.1 FM to Cease Operations Effective January 15, 2010
January 14, 2010, Des Moines, IA — Tammy Hoyman, CEO of (EFR) Employee & Family Resources, announced today that KFMG 99.1 FM will cease operations at noon tomorrow, January 15.
Hoyman said, "After careful consideration, the Board of Directors determined it was in EFR’s best interest to cease operations of KFMG immediately. While we appreciate the station's history and community outreach, we have a responsibility to the communities we serve to make responsible, fiduciary decisions that support our core programming and services."
Financial projections outlining the station's operational expenses and income was a determining factor in removing the station's on-air operations.
Although KFMG's operations will cease on January 15, EFR will continue to hold the license. Additionally, EFR's Board of Directors and staff leadership will continue to identify a suitable transferee. Should a transferee be identified, the radio station may be transferred to another non-profit after March 7, 2010.
EFR & KFMG History
In 2007, EFR was successful in its bid to obtain the low-power license for KFMG in order to establish a high quality community-based radio station. Since then, KFMG has been dedicated to entertaining and informing listeners with a format that offers progressive/adult alternative music, local arts, entertainment, literature, poetry, and quality-of-life and community outreach.
