Communicate to Disconnect

with No Comments

You know that song about summertime and the livin’ being easy? That sentiment might creep into the workplace with more people taking personal time away for vacations and family commitments. The best way to manage this season is to keep communication channels open so everyone is in the know regarding time away and modified work schedules. If you are planning to be out of the office, let your colleagues and leaders know in advance.  It is common for people to continue checking in while on vacation so the expectation might be that even if you’re out of the office you’re still available to answer questions. Be up front about your plans to disconnect. The best way to come back from a vacation feeling refreshed is to truly take a break from work. To make your first day back as stress-free as possible, try to block time on your calendar to check email and catch up on what you missed while you were away before scheduling meetings.
