Individual and Family Counseling (Bilingual: English, Spanish)

The Individual and Family Counseling Program (IFC) provides bilingual (English, Spanish) and bicultural counseling and therapy services for the growing Latino community in Central Iowa. The program can help individuals and families address challenges such as depression and other emotional issues, relationship or marital problems, family and parenting concerns, stress, financial concerns, grief and loss, abuse, and communication. This program also offers the support of an in-home case manager/counselor to assist therapy clients with the practical application of skills and action plans between therapy sessions.
Access to the program is easy and convenient for the Latino community. Therapy services are available by appointment at offices located at the HOLA Center (618 East 18th Street in Des Moines) and at EFR's Community Services location (1446 Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway). Referrals from schools or other service providers are regularly accepted. This program is affordable for everyone, regardless of citizenship status, due to funding from the United Way of Central Iowa and a sliding fee scale that ranges from $5 to $70 per session.
How the program works
Therapy services are initiated by client contact with the program. An individual or family will meet with the master-level therapist for a thorough assessment that will culminate in the setting of goals and establishment of an action plan to address the presenting concerns. Each client will decide with the therapist whether meeting with the in-home case manager/counselor would be helpful to them to implement skills and plans that are discussed in therapy sessions. Meetings with the case manager/counselor are reserved for individuals and families that are actively engaged with the therapist.
All counseling services are provided in accordance with state and federal guidelines regarding client confidentiality and privacy.
Counseling or therapy services can be arranged by contacting or visiting the HOLA Center or EFR Community Services.
Consejería Individual y Familiar (Bilingüe)
Este programa facilita el aceso a servicios de salud mental cuales son culturalmente apropiados para la población creciente de los Latinos en la region central de Iowa. Nuestros profesionales ofrecen consejeria clínica en la oficina para individuos y/o familias, y apoyo de seguimiento con visitas a la casa. La consejeria puede ayudar en los tiempos difíciles y con temas como: preocupaciones de pareja, problemas matrimoniales, crianza de los niños y los jóvenes, comunicación, depresión, estrés, pérdidas personales, finanzas, abuso, crisis, y otros problemas personales o del hogar.
Uno de los servicios disponibles por medio de EFR (Recursos para Empleados y Familias) es proveer consejería bilingüe confidencial, fácil de conseguir y a bajo costo para los Latinos en el condado de Polk. Este servicio es acesible por medio de fondos de United Way del Iowa central.
Como Funciona el Programma
Servicios son confidenciales y para los Latinos en el condado de Polk sin importar su estatus legal. Las personas pueden pedir los servicios por si mismo o ser referidos por la escuela u otros. Este servicio esta acesible por medio de cobros según el ingreso del persona o de la familia (el cobro varia de $5-$70) y el apoyo de United Way del Iowa central. El cliente o la familia reune con la terapista para la cita inicial. Durante la cita completarán una entrevista detallada para empezar con establecer metas y un plan de accion. El/la cliente decide con la terapista si seria beneficial trabajar con la consejera de casa. El trabajo con la consejera de casa es para familias o individuos quienes estan participando activamente con la terapista, pero necesitan ayuda a poner en práctica los tópicos y comportamientos.
Todos los servicios se entregan según reglas estatales y federales con respeto a la privacidad del cliente.
