When you were a kid you probably heard “look both ways before you cross the street” from the elders who watched over you. As a parent, maybe you find yourself echoing this same advice. Now that cell phones and other portable devices go everywhere, it’s become easy to be disconnected from our surroundings, making it even more important we look both ways before crossing the street.
Taking a photograph, reading a text, or playing the latest game while walking out and about is common and can be witnessed on every sidewalk and street corner. In 2015, it was reported that pedestrian fatalities were on the rise after many years of decline. The suspected culprit: texting while walking. Don’t be a distracted walker. There are enough distracted drivers out and about so if you can be the one paying attention, it might just save your life. Knowing your surroundings is one of the best ways you can be safe and stay safe.
