  1. Smoking Kills More Asian-Americans Than Thought
    More Asian-Americans die from smoking than previously believed, and research shows that cancer rates would be cut dramatically among Asians if smoking were eliminated.

  2. Keg Registration Ordinance Goes Into Effect Today
    Those days of anonymous kegs in Story County will exist only in memories after a local keg ordinance goes into effect today.

  3. The NSDUH Report:  State Estimates of Underage Drinking
    Underage drinking is known to vary across States.1 The National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH) asks respondents aged 12 or older to report on their alcohol and binge alcohol use in the past 30 days. NSDUH defines binge alcohol use as drinking five or more drinks on the same occasion (i.e., at the same time or within a couple of hours of each other) on at least 1 day in the past 30 days.

  4. Four Minor Leaguers Suspended for Steroids
    Diamondbacks minor league pitcher Angel Rocha was suspended for 100 games yesterday, the toughest penalty baseball has levied for a positive steroid test.

Who We Are

"Employee and Family Resources (EFR) is an organization dedicated to assisting individuals, families, and communities in envisioning and realizing health and wellness."

What We Do

Our Prevention staff is professionally and culturally competent to provide research-based services to many areas in the community including but not limited to:

  1. Information: Providing a one-time service to present information on Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drugs (ATOD), as well as violence. (i.e. Participating in Health Fairs)

  2. Education: Providing a series of research-based programs designed to change attitudes and behaviors around ATOD and violence. (i.e. Presenting an 8 week classroom program on violence prevention)

  3. Alternatives: Participating in healthy activities with groups that encourage extracurricular activities without ATOD and violence. (i.e. Red Ribbon Day)

  4. Problem Identification: Providing the community with problem identification and referral services around ATOD and violence concerns. (i.e. Diversion Classes)

  5. Community-Based process: Providing comprehensive services that support community efforts to reduce ATOD and violence. (i.e. Helping to determine if a community is ready for alcohol prevention by conducting interviews and offering technical assistance)

  6. Environmental Strategies: Providing services that establish or change written or unwritten community standards and attitudes around ATOD and violence. (i.e. Working with community members in establishing a drug-free school zone)

Purpose of This E-mail

Every month EFR receives information about violence, alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs. To keep our community informed, EFR has created a monthly e-mail outlining the most recent developments in research and prevention.
